Moms, as you know, Nashville has already seen a lot more snow days than we normally do by this point in winter. If you are like me, you are probably already running out of ideas to keep the kids busy. I thought I would share a few ideas that I like to keep on hand to fill in those unexpected days off school to have some snow day fun.
Craft Kits
I love to hit the clearance of craft stores and after-Christmas sales. These sales are great places to find clearance craft kits, board games, or puzzles. I put these items up in my closet till snow days happen. Then, I have a stockpile on hand before it happens. I just went to Michael’s this week and found some fun winter themed crafts already on sale. Another idea is to keep crafts for the next holidays on hand to do during these snowy cold days.
Puzzles
Keep some puzzles on hand for a great family activity all can get involved in. I personally try to keep puzzles around for anytime we find ourselves at home more than normal. Especially when weather is bad, there is something cozy about sitting around the table as a family with some hot chocolate and working together. Our family likes to do 300 and 500 piece puzzles. They tend to not get too overwhelming and are able to be finished without taking a long time. If you know another family who like puzzles, you can even trade them between your homes.
Baking Kits
Another item I like to keep on hand is some baking kits or cooking kits to get us in the kitchen together. I do not know why cold weather makes you want to bake something warm and yummy, but it does. The only downside to this is making sure you have the right ingredients on hand. If the recent grocery store issues when snow is in the forecast is any indication, this could be tricky. But for the most part most kits or boxes just need oil and eggs.
Snow Fun
Lastly, get out and enjoy the snow day fun if you can. A simple walk helps keep moods up. Personally, I love to sled and throw snowballs with my kiddos. Enjoy the moments of winter fun while they last. Remember that the sun will come out again and it will melt. You will not be stuck inside forever.
