The Steeplechase. Do you go? Have you considered it? I haven’t been in ages. And honestly, didn’t pay any attention to the horses when I was there. Ahem. They used to call it the “people waste” for a reason.

BUT, I know with the sponsorships of Bank of America and the Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, they have made a concerted effort to clean it up a lot. This year, they are even introducing a new Family Fun Zone.

The Family Fun Zone is an alcohol-free zone filled with free games and entertainment like face painting, inflatables, and pony rides, all for ages 12 and younger.

Perusing their website, I also see they offer a Stick Horse Race for ages 3-10.

I really like seeing the new changes, how they are including the whole family and making it a safer, more family-friendly event.

The Steeplechase is always held on the second Saturday in May. 2013 marks the 72nd running of the Iroquois Steeplechase. It will be held on May 11, 2013 at its normal location of the Equestrian Center at Percy Warner Park, Nashville, TN.
